European pharmacopoeia adopted the term Orodispersible tablet .Orodispersible tablets(ODTs) are also known as Fast melting tablets, fast dissolving/dispersing tablets or melt in mouth tablets. Orodispersible tablets have received ever-increasing demand during the last decade, and the field has become a rapidly growing area in the pharmaceutical industry. Upon introduction into the mouth, these tablets dissolve or disintegrate in the mouth in the absence of additional water for easy administration of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The popularity and usefulness of the formulation resulted in development of several ODTs technologies. This review describes the various formulation aspects and technologies developed for ODTs, along with various excipients, evaluation tests, marketed formulations of ODTs.There are multiple fast dissolving OTC and Rx products on the market , most of which have been launched in the past 3to 4 years. Thus, in future, it is expected that this delivery system will get much importance as that of conventional delivery systems.
