Aromatherapy is an alternative complementary medical (CAM) treatment that is popular with people with depression. As aromatherapy becomes more prevalent in the treatment of depression symptoms, the effectiveness of evidence-based treatments needs to be questioned. Various techniques are used to extract essential oils or volatile oils from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots, fruits, and other botanical ingredients. In particular, aromatherapy has been shown to be more effective than steam therapy in reducing the symptoms of depression. Sauna therapy, on the other hand, has been shown to be effective, but more research is needed to provide compelling evidence of this aromatherapy modality. This review summarizes how essential oils work in the central nervous system and help to reduce depression.</p> DIKSHA KAUSHAL SACHIN BHARDWAJ SHWETA AGARWAL LALIT KUMAR DAIWAKSHI SHANDIL ANIL KUMAR Copyright (c) 2022 Innovat International Journal Of Medical & Pharmaceutical Sciences 2022-07-01 2022-07-01 4 7 RIDA HERBAL BITTERS ATTENUATES PANCREATIC OXIDATIVE STRESS, INFLAMMATION AND APOPTOSIS IN HIGH-FAT DIET/STREPTOZOTOCIN-INDUCED DIABETIC RATS <p><strong>Background: </strong>Diabetes mellitus progression is triggered by oxidative stress, inflammation and pancreatic apoptosis<strong>. </strong>Therefore, this study investigated effects of Rida herbal bitters (RHB) on oxidative stress, inflammatory response and apoptosis in pancreas of high-fat diet and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.</p> <p><strong>Materials and Methods:</strong> Thirty-two (32) male Wistar rats weighing (180 ±20g) were used and diabetes was induced by repeated intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (35 mg/kgbw) after feeding the animals with high-fat diet for six weeks. The rats were randomly assigned into four groups, 8rats each. Group I: control; Group II: diabetic; Group III &amp; IV: diabetic rats received 0.3ml RHB and 200mg/kgbwp.o metformin for 28days. Daily food and water intake were recorded daily, body weight and fasting blood glucose levels weekly throughout the experiment. The animals were sacrificed on the last day; blood and pancreas were collected for biochemical investigations.</p> <p><strong>Results: </strong>Diabetic rats exhibited significant (p&lt;0.05) increases in fasting blood glucose (FBG), serum insulin, pancreatic tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), caspase-3, malondialdehyde (MDA), and water intake and reductions in pancreatic interleukin-10 (IL-10), B cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), body weight and food intake. Rida herbal bitters administration attenuated all these changes comparable to metformin in most studied parameters.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>In the pancreatic tissue, Rida herbal bitters effectively improved pancreatic cells by reducing hyperglycemia through activating endogenous antioxidants, recovering insulin sensitivity, suppressing inflammation and apoptosis in type II diabetic rat model. RHB could be used as novel therapy for diabetes.</p> AJAO FOLASADE OMOBOLANLE IYEDUPE MARCUS OLAOYE Copyright (c) 2022 Innovat International Journal Of Medical & Pharmaceutical Sciences 2022-07-01 2022-07-01 8 13 ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND BACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF VARIOUS EXTRACTS OF MOMORDICA CHARANTIA <p><strong>Objective: </strong>The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the antibacterial activity of different plant parts (leaf, fruit, seed, and stem) of <em>Momordica charantia</em>.</p> <p><strong>Materials and Methods</strong>: The plant parts were subjected to successive extraction using six different solvents viz., Distilled water, Ethanol, Methanol, Acetone, Hexane &amp; Petroleum ether. The antibacterial activity was determined by Agar–well diffusion method against 6 Gram-positive bacterial strains viz., <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em>, <em>Staphylococcus epidermidis</em>, <em>Bacillus subtilis</em>, <em>Bacillus cereus</em>, <em>Enterococcus feacalis</em> &amp; <em>Micrococcus luteus</em> and 7 Gram-negative bacterial strains viz., <em>Escherichia coli</em>, <em>Klebsiella pneumoniae</em>, <em>Proteus vulgaris</em>, <em>Proteus mirabilis</em>, <em>Enterobacter aerogenes</em>, <em>Alcaligenes faecalis</em> &amp; <em>Pseudomonas aeuriginosa</em>. Among the various extracts, aqueous followed by ethanol extracts were found to be more effective against all the bacteria.</p> <p><strong>Results:</strong> The plant extracts were more active against Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative. The most resistant bacteria were <em>Alcaligenes faecalis &amp; Pseudomonas aeuriginosa</em> while <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em>, together with <em>Escherichia coli</em> appeared to be the most susceptible. The aqueous leaf extract exhibited remarkable antibacterial activity against <em>S.aureus </em>(26 mm)which was comparable with standard Ciprofloxacin. The results obtained appeared to confirm the antibacterial potential of various extracts of <em>M. charantia</em> parts investigated, and their usefulness in the treatment of bacterial diseases. Further to study the anti-proliferative properties of <em>M. charantia</em> MTT assay was conducted on RAW 264.7 cells using LPS as a positive control. The result obtained shows a 100ug/ml concentration of extract to have an equivalent anti-proliferative effect as lipopolysaccharide.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> Previous studies have demonstrated a close relationship between inflammation and several diseases. This study conducted demonstrates the therapeutic</p> RENUKA GUDEPU GUNASWETHA KURAGANTI SWETHA VIDDAMURI Copyright (c) 2022 Innovat International Journal Of Medical & Pharmaceutical Sciences 2022-07-01 2022-07-01 14 19 PROTECTIVE ROLE OF Psoralea corylifolia ON β-CYPERMETHRIN-INDUCED TESTICULAR TOXICITY IN ALBINO RATS <p>The present study was designed to investigate the role of chloroform seed extract of Psoralea corylifolia against β-cypermethrin -induced testicular toxicity in Albino rats. Healthy male Albino rats were divided in four groups. Group I served as a control and group II, III and IV served as Group II was treated with seed extract of Psoralea corylifolia (400mg/kg bw), group III was treated with β-cypermethrin (12.5 mg/kg bw) and group IV was treated with both β-cypermethrin and seed extract of P. corylifolia for 55 days. At the end of the experiment, rats were sacrificed and evaluated reproductive endpoints. A significant decrease in the weights of testes and epididymis associated with significant reduction in the testicular daily sperm production and epididymal sperm count, sperm motility, sperm viability, and number of tail coiled sperm (HOS-test) was observed in β-cypermethrin treated groups over controls. In addition, serum testosterone levels were significantly decreased in β-cypermethrin treated group compared to controls. Analysis of oxidative stress parameters indicated that a significant elevation was observed in lipid peroxidation levels with a concomitant decrease in superoxide dismutase , and catalase was observed in rats treated with β-cypermethrin. On the other hand, supplementation of seed extracts of P. corylifolia exhibited reversal effects of selected reproductive endpoints in rats subjected to β-cypermethrin. The present study results suggested that P. corylifolia seed extract protected the β-cypermethrin-induced testicular toxicity in Albino rats and probably via inhibition of oxidative stress and boosting testosterone biosynthesis.</p> TASLIM S K.
